Fishing in Scotland

A great variety of fishing is available in a relatively small area - salmon and sea trout in the rivers, brown trout & coarse fishing in lochans and a wide range of sea fishing from shore and boat.

Ardgour

Day and weekly licences are available for the river Gour and Loch nan Gobhar with some small lochans on hills above the estate for the agile. Licences Ardgour Stores, Ardgour 01855 841 227.

Strontian

The Strontian Angling Association is responsible for the fishing rights on the rivers Strontian, Polloch & Carnoch. All of these rivers have a number of accessible pools. Fishing is also available on Loch Doilet, a medium sized loch situated in the lower end of Glen Hurich in an attractive quiet mountain setting, fishing here is by boat only.

The fishing season runs from the 1st June to the 30th September. Salmon, Sea-Trout and Brown Trout are to be found, catch and release is currently in operation and Daily & Weekly Permits are available. The Association currently has three boats available for hire.

Permits are available from Strontian Post Office and Strontian Village Shop.

Ardtornish Estate

Fly fishing only is permitted on the two rivers and 16 lochs on the estate. Boats are available for hire on the three biggest lochs. Telephone the estate office on (01967) 421288 for availability and to arrange permits.

Acharacle and Moidart

The River Shiel is let on a weekly basis – by arrangement (01967) 431618. There is no bank fishing on Loch Shiel. Boat and Rod Licences can be obtained from Out of Doors Shop in Acharacle, telephone 01967 431634. Loch Blain licences also available here.

Kinlochmoidart Estate own the lochs and the river which provides good sport when in spate. Licences and directions are available from Kinlochmoidart House. (01967) 431609.

Fishing & coaching (all disciplines)

Fishing is available on the Ardnamurchan Estate Lochs Mudle and Mhadaidh from March until October, rowing boats for use on Loch Mudle may be hired from the Estate. Permits are available from Kilchoan Community Centre, Kilchoan Ferry Stores, Kilchoan House Hotel Ardnamurchan Natural History Centre and Out of Doors, Acharacle. Sea Fishing

Shoreline, small boat hire or sea going charter provide a full range of sea fishing, covering around 20 species and including mackerel, cod, pollock and wrasse.

Shoreline fishing from the rocks along Loch Sunart is free as is fishing from Kilchoan pier. Fishing is not permitted from the fish farm jetties. 16’ self drive outboard boats are available from Ardnamurchan Charters , Laga Bay.

Ardnamurchan Charters mainly specialise in charter trips aboard the 32' sea going Laurenca II. Radar, sonar and fish finding gadgetry are backed up by experienced skipper. Trips vary from two hours along along Loch Sunart, to day trips to Mull and Staffa, to a week including areas such as St Kilda.
